Procedure

1. Download and print the PDF file of Activity 6-2 handout. Make copies as indicated above.

2. Divide the class into groups of four or five students. Distribute handout 6-2a: The National Japanese American Memorial Guidelines, to each student. Students will need at least one class period to collect information, do research, and organize their designs.

3. At the beginning of a subsequent class period, announce that the class will now simulate a national committee convening with the purpose of building a memorial to recognize the Japanese American experience during World War II.

4. Allow each group to present its design. Allow each group four minutes for the presentation.

5. Ask the class to vote on its favorite design. Students cannot vote for their own group's plan.

6. Announce the most popular plan. Display the plans in your classroom.
